Over 90% of water in our area is Hard. Even municipal water is likely to be hard.

Municipal water provided by a city or township is treated for any micro-organisms to be made potable. They do not remove hardness minerals.

Hardness in your water can be much more than a nuisance. Minerals in water can clog plumbing, damage expensive water using appliances like washing machines and hot water tanks, and reduce efficiency in your hot water tank.

Symptoms of hard water are, scale around faucets, spots on glasses, stiff laundry, high soap usage, slowed or stopped up plumbing or recent replacement of hot water tank.

Other than the quality of the media used to treat the water, these types of systems have not changed in many years. Their function is basic;

Water passes into the main resin chamber through a control valve at the top. This water flows down through a bed of fine beads called ' ion exchange resin'. The resin attract hardness particles in the water causing them to cling to the resin. When the resin has become saturated with hardness, a backwash cycle is initiated The main valve will reverse the flow of water through the resin bed fluffing it up, then, run an amount of brine (salt water) through it releasing all the hardness.
